Dr Pamela Mason
BA, MA, PhD Birmingham
Pamela read English at the University of Birmingham. She won a Major State Studentship and stayed in Birmingham to study at the Shakespeare Institute where her MA thesis dealt with productions of Much Ado About Nothing. For her PhD thesis she focused upon Olivier’s Shakespeare. Pamela was the first woman to be appointed as a Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute, the world centre for post-graduate Shakespeare studies. She has taught at the Shakespeare Institute and was a course tutor for the Open University. She has written and co-edited a number of books on Shakespeare including co-editing Shakespeare in Performance with her husband, Keith Parsons.
Pamela has been teaching at Wroxton since 1986. She was joined by Keith in 1994 and the two of them run all of the College’s English Literature and Drama courses. Performance schedules and an eagerness to extend their own experience means that courses are never simply repeated from semester to semester. Keith and Pamela insist that they teach students rather than texts.
